Ever since I started writing songs at the age of 8, once in awhile, a country song would pop out. Even though the Beatles and Nirvana were my favorite bands as a kid, I always had a love for country music. Growing up in 1990's-small-town-Texas, you couldn't avoid hearing Garth, Randy, or Alan on the airwaves. As I continued to write music, I would collect these country and save them with the idea that one day I might make my own country album. In 2008, after recording my first 3 albums in NYC, the time had come. I went back to my home state, to my favorite town in Texas, Austin, and set up shop at Spoon's recording studio, Public Hi-fi. That's when I recorded Changing Horses. To me it's a magical album because it reminds me of a magical time with 3 of my favorite musicians - Chris Morrissey (bass), Mark Stepro (drums), and the virtuosic Kitt Kitterman (pedal Steel, dobro). I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.
